Gongchenqiao Sub-district

Gongchengqiao sub-district is named after a three-hole stone arch bridge built in Ming Dynasty. The ancient Grand Canal flows through the place and seperate it into two parts: Qiaoxi (west part of the bridge) and Qiaodong (east part of the bridge). The sub-district owns two world heritage sites, the Gongcheng Bridge and the West Bridge Historical and Cultural Street.

Founded in August 1954, Gongcheng sub-district is the location of Gongshu Party Committee ad Gongshu government. Adjacent to Shangtang sub-district to the east and north,  Xiangfu sub-district and Hemu sub-district to the west , and Xiaohe sub-district to the south, it covers an area of 423 squre kilometers with a population of 78,000. The office building is in No. 40 Wenzhou Road. Consisting of 8 communities, namely, Silkworm Garden, Yongqing Road, Wenzhou Road, Taizhou Road, Dengyun Road, Qiaoxi, Quzhou and Wenlan, Gongcheng sub-district also accommodates some large and medium-sized work units like Hangzhou Normal University affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang Elderly Care Hospital; museums like the Grand Canal Museum, Hangzhou Arts and Crafts Museum, Hangzhou Swords and Scissors Museum, Fan Industry Museum, Umbrella Industry Museum, all are of national grid; high-end residential area and communities and Cultural and Creative Industrial Parks are also situated in the place, like Green City Jiangnan Li, Kaidelong Bay, Yuanyang River Chenzhang, Jiulongcang Bixi and others,as well as Loft 49, Loft Park.

To strengthen the awareness that it is the key sub-district as the location of the district government and adhere to the brand construction of "Charming Gongcheng",  Gongchengqiao sub-district has won itself several honorary titles like: Hangzhou Ecological Civilization Model Sub-district, Role Model Sub-district of No Unapproved Illegal Construction, Five-Star Standardized Judicial Institute at provincial level, etc. The sub-district has rich intangible cultural heritage resources as there are 28 intangible cultural heritages. Canal Lantern Festival and Wulin Martial Arts have been selected as provincial "intangible cultural heritage" projects. Handicraft Live Museum is quite popular among the residents as it combines exhibition and interactive experience.

Gongchenqiao sub-district has remarkable advantages in tourism. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, the historical and Cultural District of Qiaoxi was called "Beiguan Night Market". Benefiting from the convenient traffic of the Canal, different walks of life and commercial business ran stores along the river, making the district known as "Little Shanghai". Now, a complete set of residential buildings along the river constructed at the end of the Qing Dynasty or the beginning of the Republic as well as a large number of modern industrial relics are still preserved. It was graded as the 4A scenic spot in 2012, Zhejiang Cultural Creative Block, Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourism Scenic Spot, Hangzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourism Scenic Spot and Hangzhou National Community Model Spot in recent years. Premier Li Keqiang, deputy secretary-general of the United Nations and other politicians have ever visited Qiaoxi Historic street, which helped to expand its regional influence.
